Entering the weekend, City still trails Liverpool in the title race by just two points, but they have one extra match to play. If they can win their remaining five matches, they’ll lift the Premier League trophy for the third time in their history.
Meanwhile, Spurs are obviously riding high after reaching the Champions League semifinals at the expense of City. Despite their hopes of European glory increasing, they still have to worry about securing a spot in next season’s Champions League. They sit third in the table coming into play this weekend, but only one point separates them and fifth-place Chelsea.
City was celebrating knocking Spurs out of the Champions League not three days ago. If not for VAR ruling out the goal, they might’ve demoralized Spurs, making this weekend a foregone conclusion. Instead, they’re left reeling, in desperate need of three points to avoid a massive letdown of a season.
The stakes don’t get much higher than this. It should be a season-defining match for both clubs.
