Manchester City vs Huddersfield as it happened: Sergio Aguero scores hat-trick as champions win 6-1

Sergio Aguero scored his 13th Manchester City hat-trick as the champions thrashed Huddersfield 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Gabriel Jesus and David Silva also struck and Terence Kongolo turned into his own net in a one-sided Premier League encounter.

Huddersfield's only moment of joy came just before half-time when Jon Gorenc Stankovic netted following a long throw-in.

Live Updates

17:23
62 mins: Pogba passes it into touch. No one near him. Sums them up.
17:22
Can this man rescue United?

17:20
Anthony Martial is replaced by Maruoane Fellaini. Odd change.
17:18
57 mins: United's defence is an absolute sideshow. The nervousness and anxiety in the backline is clear to see. Every player who receives the ball looks uncomfortable and Brighton will look to press more.
17:15
54 mins: United look OKAY when going forward but at the back they lack any composure or resilience.

As I speak though, Pogba launches an aimless long ball out for a goal kick.
17:10
49 mins: Very nervy football from United who's passing looks shaky to say the least.
17:09
48 mins: Fred takes a pot-shot from 35 yards and watches it whistle high and wide.
Not a comforting start to the second half.
17:06
And they have so. Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira have been replaced by English duo Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.

Will they inspire an sensational comeback?

They're going to have to work very hard.
17:05
Will United make any changes? You would have to expect so.
16:56
Not a lot of goodwill towards United following that opening 45.
16:51
HALF TIME: Brighton 3-1 Manchester United

Brighton appear to be on course for their third straight win against the Red Devils at home, a record stretching back to 1982.
16:50
Mourinho has seen enough and takes his typically early walk into the changing room.

I have a feeling he's going to have plenty to say to his United squad.
16:48
Martial goes into the book.
16:47
It was absolutely crazy defending to give away the penalty in the first place.

Fred's miscontrol led to a Brighton break and Gross found himself with time between the centre backs and as he set himself for the strike, Bailly needlessly slid in and took the winger out.

Considering that United fought their way back into the contest and were looking at taking a 2-1 deficit into the break, this will be a truly disastrous first half.
16:45
43 mins: GOAL! Brighton 3-1 Manchester United (Gross, 43)

Only just! Gross strikes his penalty down the middle and De Gea gets his legs onto it but it's not enough to keep it out.
16:43
41 mins: PENALTY TO BRIGHTON!
16:41
39 mins: Brighton still creating and playing well causing most of their danger down the left.

Juan Mata has really struggled to make an impact so far.

16:39

He may miss his fair share of chances but he does seem to score a fair few, as well.
16:38
37 mins: OVER! Knockaert takes but sends the ball comfortably over the bar.
16:38
36 mins: Paul Pogba gives away the ball trying some skills in his own half and Fred then commits the foul.

Free kick in a dangerous position for the hosts.

Can they retrieve their two goal advantage?

What time does it start?

Manchester City vs. Huddersfield Town kicks off at 1:30PM (BST)

Where can I watch it?

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports’ Main Event and Premier League channels. Sky Sports subscribers can stream the match online via SkyGo and the SkyGo app.

Highlights will be available at 10:30PM on BBC One.

It’s a big game for…

Terence Kongolo: The Dutchman was in impressive form against Chelsea, and will need to be at his commanding best again if his team are to have any chance of stopping the plethora of attacking options at Pep Guardiola’s disposal. The 24-year-old signed on a permanent deal from Monaco in the summer, having spent the second half of last season on loan with the Terriers.

Stat…

4: Manchester City have failed to score in their last four home league encounters with Sunday’sopponents. The reigning champions have never gone five consecutive home league games without scoring against a single opponent in their history.

Remember when…

The two sides faced each other seven times in Division One 1996-2000, and this winner from Rob Edwards in the 1997/98 season secured the first of two wins for the Terriers at Maine Road in as many seasons. The 18-pass move was finished in style when Edwards, a boyhood City fan, met Dave Phillips’ cross at the back post and volleyed it past City keeper Martyn Margetson.

Player to watch…

Bernardo Silva: The 24-year-old Portuguese played a rather peripheral role for Manchester City last season but his goal against Arsenal confirmed his desire to establish himself as a more permanent fixture this term. The potential long-term injury to Kevin de Bruyne will enhance his chances of doing so in a more central positon, where he starred against both Arsenal and Chelsea.
