That’s all for now. Be sure to check out Paul Wilson’s match report from the Etihad Stadium and thanks for following along with us!
Full-time: Manchester City 6-1 Newcastle United
And there’s the final whistle. City survives a listless first half hour only to see the suddenly in-form Sergio Aguero punch in five goals in less than 20 minutes en route to a 6-1 laugher.
90 min+1: Four minutes of stoppage time until City go top and the Magpies go bottom.
90 min: As the teams begin to close down shop, it should come as no surprise that Aguero has been named man of the match.
@BryanAGraham I think I speak for all who have Sergio Aguero as their fantasy team captain when I say, this is the greatest day of my life.

87 min: Mangala sees yellow for a late challenge on Mitrovic.
85 min: Another chance for Bony, this time off a wonderful pass by De Bruyne (who’s been outstanding today), but he can’t put it home.
82 min: (Upon further review it appears Zabaleta was booked for the tackle of Perez for leading with both feet.)
81 min: Zabaleta shown yellow for a tackle that looked fine from my angle.
78 min: Bony breaks down his defender up the left side before bending a cross into the area. It’s headed down to Navas and chaos erupts around the ball in the box before it’s cleared. Very nearly a seventh for City, who are about 15 minutes from going top.
76 min: Silva exits for Iheanacho, who makes his mark immediately by putting a shot on goal that demands Krul’s best effort.
71 min: A cross is whistled into the area to Bony, who very nearly drives it home for a seventh but his shot goes wide left of the goal.
66 min: De Bruyne has a go toward the far post but it travels wide. Pace of the match seems to have slowed now.
64 min: Two substitutions for Newcastle as Tiote and Thauvin come on for Gouffran and Sissoko.
63 min: Aguero exits to roars from the crowd as Bony replaces him. Just a marvelous showing. Five goals in roughly 15 minutes. Who could have expected this after that lackluster first half hour?
GOAL! Manchester City 6-1 Newcastle United (Aguero, 59 min)
Make it five! It’s Aguero again with his fifth goal of the day, finishing from close range off a great ball by De Bruyne. An outrageous performance in every sense.
GOAL! Manchester City 5-1 Newcastle United (Aguero, 59 min)
And that’s four for Aguero, the latest on a right-footed missile from outside the area that skids past Krul inside the far post. What a goal.
GOAL! Manchester City 4-1 Newcastle United (De Bruyne, 54 min)
It’s the young Belgian who slots home an impossibly angled volley and the rout is on. De Bruyne has now scored four goals in his last five matches across all competition. Money well spent.
53 min: A sub for Newcastle as Lascelles comes on for Mbabu.

GOAL! Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle United (Aguero, 51 min)
Just like that it’s played to Aguero prompting Krul to leave his line, but the Argentine chips the keeper and he’s got a hat trick in less than 10 minutes of match time.
GOAL! Manchester City 2-1 Newcastle United (Aguero, 49 min)
David Silva dispossesses Mbabu and seeks out Aguero, whose left-footed shot takes a deflection off Gouffran that wrong-foots Krul.
46 min: And City kick off to open the second half. Jesús Navas has replaced Sterling along the right side.
Half-time: Manchester City 1-1 Newcastle United
And the teams will head into the half knotted at one goal apiece. A strong showing by the visitors, while the hosts did well to shake off the doldrums and equalise late.
45 min+2: Sterling is hacked down Janmaat and City will have a free kick from a dangerous area for what should be the last kick of the half. Silva takes it and it’s sent far and wide.
Updated
45 min+1: Fernandinho sees yellow for a challenge on Ayoze.
45 min: De Bruyne, who’s been City most consistent creative presence today, takes a shot from just outside the area but the left-footed attempt goes wide of the near post. The fourth official signals for three minutes of added time.
GOAL! Manchester City 1-1 Newcastle United (Aguero, 42 min)
Corner to City and De Bruyne’s effort into the area is booted out. Another corner and this time De Bruyne plays it short. It’s worked around to David Silva, who plays to Fernandinho within touching distance of the goal. All that’s left is a header into Aguero, who heads it for the equalizer.

39 min: Frenetic pace over the past few minutes as the teams rally up and down the pitch.
37 min: Zabaleta is hacked down to the horror of the home crowd. He’s down getting treatment and Vurnon Anita is shown yellow for the clattering challenge. De Bruyne takes the free kick and plays it into the area but it goes out for a City corner, which is cleared easily. Moments later Fernandinho has a go from 20 yards but his right-footed shot is fired wide.
33 min: Aguero has an attempt from 18 yards but it skids past Krul just wide of the far post.
30 min: A half hour in and a City performance that could be described charitably as sub-par. Sterling in particular has been underwhelming.
26 min: Two more chances by Newcastle including a shot by Mitrović, played onside for an effective clear breakaway on goal, that demands Hart’s very best effort. Magpies just taking City apart at the back here! However, will they be made to pay for not converting these chances?
23 min: Bit of a slow patch here as the teams trade possession in the middle third.
20 min: Twenty minutes in and City not looking like themselves. They’ve been further helped by a pair of offside calls.
GOAL! Manchester City 0-1 Newcastle United (Mitrović, 18 min)
Newcastle plays it up the left side and it’s sent into the area. It’s briefly cleared by a defender back to Wijnaldum, but his second attempt at a cross finds Mitrović in acres of space and the Serb buries the header past Hart into the back of the net. Visitors on top and City in trouble again!
Updated
16 min: Sterling surges into the area with the ball where he’s taken down by Mbemba, but the penalty is (correctly) not given.
14 min: Pace seems to have slowed a bit. A quick counter-attack for Newcastle ends when Sissoko’s speculative cross sails out. Poor giveaway, that.
11 min: De Bruyne plays to Kolarov, who sends it into the area for an onrushing Aguero, whose sharply struck header on goal from 12 yards is sent right into a defender.
7 min: City win a free kick from a relatively dangerous area. It’s taken by De Bruyne, who fires it toward the near post where it’s saved by Krul! Ball is still in and City have another shot at it. Chaos in the area! Finally is cleared from danger.
5 min: City on the attack keyed by De Bruyne, who plays to Kolarov as he makes an overlapping run up the left flank. Kolarov runs 10 yards with the ball and plays it into the area, but it skids past Krul harmlessly past the goal line.
3 min: An open start for both sides. Newcastle win the first corner of the game. It’s played into the area but easily cleared by De Bruyne.
1 min: And we’re off! Manchester City attacking from right to left in traditional home kits, Newcastle from left to right.

Bryan will be here shortly, in the meantime here’s how City got on in the Champions League this week:
Manuel Pellegrini praised Sergio Agüero’s character after the forward coolly scored the 90th-minute penalty that gave Manchester City a last-gasp victoryover Borussia Mönchengladbach to secure their first points in Champions League Group D.
Agüero’s third of the season followed an own goal equaliser after Lars Stindl had opened the scoring for Mönchengladbach at Borussia Park. Agüero had previously missed chances but Pellegrini hailed the centre-forward for winning and then finishing from the spot.
“It’s not easy to score a penalty in the last minute, we know how important Sergio is for our team but hope the whole team will change [its form]. We need the international break because we have eight injured players,” he said.
City’s last game before the week off is at home to Newcastle on Saturday. “It’s very important not only for Kun [Agüero] but all the players to beat Newcastle,” Pellegrini said. “It’s also important for all the players to have a break and stop for a little bit.”
