Thiago Silva hit the post in the first half. Now he’s sent a header - well, a shoulderer - against the bar. PSG still trail.

GOAL! Basel 1-4 Arsenal (Doumbia)

Seydou Doumbia grabs a consolation for the home side.

“Do you think most Arsenal fans are really, really hoping to finish first in their group or do you think most of them know that if they finish first they’re getting Bayern and if they finish second they’re getting Barcelona?” says JR in Illinois.

Just before the Ludogorets goal, PSG had a strong case for a penalty turned down when a visiting defender pretty much tipped Di Maria’s shot over the bar. Somehow the officials missed it.

GOAL! PSG 1-2 Ludogorets (Wanderson)

Marquinhos dithers on the left of the PSG area and allows Cafu to nip in and find Wanderson, who clips his shot underneath Areola, who really should have done better. Silence falls over the Parc des Princes. PSG need to score two more goals to win Group A.

GOAL! Benfica 0-1 Napoli (Callejon)

Callejon scoots through and dinks the Italian’s into the lead. They’re on their way to winning the group. The good news for Benfica is Besiktas are 4-0 down and have nine men.

GOAL! PSG 1-1 Ludogorets (Cavani)

A spectacular overhead kick from Edinson Cavani hauls PSG level. If they score again, they win Group A. Assuming Ludogorets don’t score again.

BESIKTAS GO DOWN TO NINE MEN!

Aboubakar is sent off after kicking the ball away and a dismal night goes from bad to worse for the Turks.

Arjen Robben speeds through on goal and continues despite a hint of a foul by an Atletico Madrid defender. He has to settle for a corner in the end and screams at the referee for not awarding a foul. But he didn’t go down.

So Arsenal are cruising and PSG are losing. Arsenal are still top of the group.

GOAL! Basel 0-4 Arsenal (Iwobi)

Mesut Ozil comes up with a sublime assist for Alex Iwobi, who can’t miss.

Half-time: Bayern Munich 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Robert Lewandowski’s brilliant free-kick separates the sides.

Half-time: PSG 0-1 Ludogorets

There could be some amusement at PSG’s expense. Are they really about to throw first place in Group A away?

Half-time: Barcelona 1-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

Lionel Messi.

Messi is running rings around the Borussia Monchengladbach defence. One more goal for the Barcelona forward equals Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 11 goals in the group stage.

“I hope the news from Kiev doesn’t kill Benfica - Napoli,” says Kari Tulinius. “It’s been a wonderful game, so far, totally harum scarum. It’s a surprise no goals have been scored yet.”

Thiago Silva heads against the post. PSG are getting closer.

GOAL! Dynamo Kiev 3-0 Besiktas (Buyalskiy)

A defensive calamity from the Turks ends with Buyalskiy chipping into an empty net from 20 yards. Dearie me, Besiktas have been hilarious.

GOAL! Dynamo Kiev 2-0 Besiktas (Yarmolenko pen)

Yarmolenko squeezes his penalty in to double the Ukrainian side’s lead, which leaves 10-man Besiktas in a right pickle. Benfica and Napoli are both going through at the moment.

PENALTY TO DYNAMO KIEV! AND A RED CARD!

Andreas Beck has been sent off for Besiktas after bringing down Denis Gonzalez, who was through on goal, and Dynamo have a chance to double their lead. Besiktas are furious. They’ll be even more annoyed if they find themselves 2-0 down.

GOAL! Bayern Munich 1-0 Atletico Madrid (Lewandowski)

Robert Lewandowski curls a stunning free-kick over the Atletico wall to give Bayern the lead.

Edinson Cavani wallops a free-kick into the Ludogorets wall. PSG still trail.

Napoli have had a goal disallowed in Lisbon. Benfica have gone close up the other end. It’s all happening.

Thiago Motta flicks Lucas Moura’s wayward shot just wide as PSG press for an equaliser. It’s surely only a matter of time. Isn’t it?

James Forrest dribbles brilliantly inside from the left and slips a pass through to Dembele. His first effort’s blocked by Caballero but the ball runs free for him to tap into an empty net. Or so you’d think. Instead he’s off balance as he slashes a dismal effort into the side netting! What a miss from the Celtic striker.

GOAL! Basel 0-2 Arsenal (Perez)

Another tap-in for Lucas Perez and Arsenal are cruising.

GOAL! PSG 0-1 Ludogorets (Misidjan)

Who said the Champions League was dull? Virgil Misidjan escapes the attention of every PSG defender and sends a free header past Areola to give the Bulgarians a shock lead! As it stands, Arsenal are going to win Group A. And...

Pablo Zabaleta bursts on to a pass from Nolito and feeds Iheanacho, who clips wide. That was a poor miss.

“I might be showing my age but are Celtic sponsored by John Player Specials?” says Jeremy Adams. “They look like the racing car Emerson Fittipaldi used to drive.”

Basel have had a goal disallowed for offside. An escape for Arsenal after some sloppy defending.

GOAL! Dynamo Kiev 1-0 Besiktas (Besedin, 10 min)

This is wonderful news for both Benfica and Napoli. Besiktas, who probably need to win if they’re to qualify from Group B, concede to a team with nothing but pride to play for. Yarmolenko reaches the byline on the right and fires in a cross for Besedin to bundle in at the far post.

GOAL! Manchester City 1-1 Celtic (Iheanacho)

Guardiola’s a genius again. City slice through Celtic’s midfield, Gundogan taking several players out of the game with a lovely pass to Nolito, who knocks it through to Iheanacho. He’s got a lot to do, but the striker rams a rising drive past Gordon at his near post to equalise.

The on-loan Manchester City winger, who’s been allowed to play, brilliantly jinks inside from the right after Willy Caballero puts Sane in trouble with a poor pass out from the back, works the ball on to his left foot and drills it past the Argentinian goalkeeper!

Preamble

Are you sitting comfortably? Good, then let’s lock the door and begin our coverage of a mostly pointless evening in the Champions League. There’s no point looking at the exit. You’re not going anywhere until we’ve . I’ve swallowed the key and I won’t be calling the emergency services for at least another three hours, so sit back down and make yourself at home.

I won’t insult you by claiming it’s not that bad. It is that bad. Rarely has there been so little at stake going into the final round of group matches in this tournament’s history, but that’s modern football for you, financially unbalanced and often deeply uncompetitive until the big sides meet in the latter stages. What fun! For example, take Group C. Barcelona have finished top. They host Borussia Monchengladbach, who are assured of a spot in the Europa League, while Manchester City reserves welcome Celtic, who are already out.

All four teams could have had the night off and it’s a similar story in Group D. Bayern Munich v Atletico Madrid sounds like a cracking fixture and it may well turn out to be a fine match. But Atletico are guaranteed to finish first and Bayern are already through. All that’s left to find out is whether PSV Eindhoven can qualify for the Europa League by beating FC Rostov. The Dutch side have to beat Rostov at home, but the Russians might fancy their chances of getting the point they need after their shock win over Bayern a fortnight ago.

Moving on to Group A, which definitely doesn’t stand for Awesome, there’s the minor intrigue of finding out who finishes first. But don’t get too excited. PSG only need to beat Ludogorets at home; Arsenal, who are relying on the Bulgarians to do them a favour, put six past them at the Emirates. It’s no longer in Arsenal’s hands after their recent draw with PSG. All they can do is win away to Basel and hope for the best. But even that won’t be straightforward. The Swiss side can be tricky at home and need a positive result in order to nab third place.

All of which means you could look at Group B, see that one point separates three sides at the top and wonder if they’re doing it right. Rest assured, this is how it’s meant to be. Because this group might not contain the most fashionable names, but it’s where all the drama will be found this evening. Napoli are top, but they could easily go out given that they’re level on points with Benfica and one in front of Besiktas. Benifca host Napoli in Lisbon, while Besiktas visit already eliminated Dynamo Kiev. Now that’s more like it!

It all kicks off at: 7.45pm GMT.
