Manchester City urged to make Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang move if Harry Kane transfer fails

Manchester City have been urged to make a transfer move for Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if they fail to seal a deal for Spurs star Harry Kane.

Aubameyang has been linked with a move to City by former Gunner Charlie Nicholas as a 'cheaper option' to Kane and the answer to Pep Guardiola's striker problem.

Despite hitting Norwich City for five on Saturday afternoon City are without a natural goalscorer and Nicholas believes they could do worse than sign Aubmeyang as a Kane alternative.

City's pursuit of Kane has been an open secret throughout the summer transfer window but with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy remaining adamant that the striker is going nowhere City could be forced to look elsewhere.

Former Arsenal striker Nicholas told the Where's Jeff? podcast that Aubameyang could do a job for the Premier League champions and is a striker they should be in for.

"They could go for someone like [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang.," Nicholas said. "It looks like something is going wrong at Arsenal at the moment, and we do know Aubameyang scores goals.

"He’s got pace, and he’s got movement. I prefer him on the left, but I could see something like that materialise.

"It gives Manchester City a cheaper option. He’s not as good as Kane, but he’s as good a finisher as Kane."

Aubmeyang has yet to feature for Mikel Arteta's side this season following a positive coronavirus test ahead of the season opener against Brentford, but the captain is back in training and contention for the London derby versus Chelsea.

In the striker's absence, Arsenal fell to a 2-0 defeat to Thomas Frank's newly-promoted side.

But with Folarin Balogun and Gabriel Martinelli struggling at the Brentford Community Stadium, any move from City to sign Aubameyang from Arsenal is not likely to be welcomed by Arteta.
