Manchester City team news blow as two players are ruled out of Newcastle United match

Newcastle United's Boxing Day opponents Manchester City have been hit by Covid issues over the festive period.

The Magpies are just recovering from a strong bout of the virus with players like Allan Saint-Maximin, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth hit by the bug.

With players slowly getting back to normal, and Lascelles now in light training, Man City have announced their own absentee list ahead of Saturday night's game.

Both Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus have tested positive for Covid while two Man City back-room members are also suffering.

City's problems were not bad enough to ask for a postponement but the club released a statement reading: "All four personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK government protocol on quarantine.

"Everyone at the club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery over the Christmas period ahead of their return to work, training and competition."

Newcastle head to the Etihad Stadium looking to make up for their League Cup quarter-final loss to Brentford but are massive underdogs with odds of 28/1 with William Hill.
