Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been named as the Premier League Player of the Season.
The Belgian scooped the prestigious award for 2019/20 after a superb campaign in which he scored 13 top-flight goals - many of them of the highest quality - and also equalled Arsenal legend Thierry Henry's record of 20 assists in a single season.
Another fine year from De Bruyne has led many to claim that he is now the best in his position in both the Premier League and European football, though his individual efforts were not enough to see City - who did retain the Carabao Cup - repeat their domestic treble from 2018/19 as they finished 18 points behind champions Liverpool and lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-finals.
The 29-year-old was also left exasperated on Saturday evening as Pep Guardiola's fancied side crashed out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the third season in succession after a shock 3-1 defeat by Lyon in Lisbon.
"It's a different year, same stuff," he told BT Sport after that latest loss. "First half wasn't good enough, I think we know that. We started slow, we didn't have many options.
"I think second half we played really well. We came back at 1-1 and had a couple of chances. It was then obviously 2-1 and 3-1 to end the game. It was a shame for us to go out in that way."
De Bruyne beat Liverpool trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane to Premier League Player of the Season honours, along with Southampton striker Danny Ings, Leicester talisman Jamie Vardy and Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Last month, the former Chelsea man was beaten to the Football Writers' Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award by Reds captain Henderson.
On Saturday, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was named as the Premier League Manager of the Year, beating the likes of Chelsea's Frank Lampard, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers after delivering a first domestic league title for 30 years to Anfield.
