Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne named PFA Player of the Year

Kevin De Bruyne has been named PFA Player of the Year after enjoying yet another excellent season with Manchester City.

De Bruyne has now won consecutive awards, meaning he joins an illustrious list of players steeped in Premier League history, following Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only players to have won the individual accolade consecutively.

The Belgian playmaker's performances were crucial towards the Blues clinching league glory, while his contribution was also key as City made it to their first Champions League final, where he was unfortunately forced off in the second half through injury.

The award is voted on by De Bruyne's fellow professionals in football and he's explained it was 'crazy' to be named the winner.

“You talk about two legends in the game – one of the best strikers ever [Henry] and one of the top two players in the world [Ronaldo], so to do the same thing as them is crazy," De Bruyne said to City in-house media.

“I really enjoy playing in this team. I signed a new contract knowing the playing style.

“I am really happy here. We compete for every trophy and that suits my competitive nature.

“The team has been unbelievable and push me to my best level every day.”
