Manchester City have signed a new deal with Verizon, the telecommunications giant which has just agreed to sell AOL and Yahoo, to help grow its presence in the US.
The Champions League finalists have announced a new regional partnership with Verizon, which will see the global technology company become an official partner of the club in the country.
The deal is Verizon’s first with a Premier League club.
The move comes after Verizon agreed to sell AOL and Yahoo to the private equity firm Apollo Global Management in a deal worth $5bn.
As part of the deal, Verizon will keep a 10% overall stake in the new company, which will now be known as Yahoo and led by CEO Guru Gowrappan.
Verizon is headquartered in New York and was formally known as Bell Atlantic Corporation.
The deal comes after City struck another regional deal in April with company founded by Abu Dhabi entrepreneur who built Burj Khalifa.
In that same month, fellow Premier League side Everton teamed up with a Florida company to support their growth and development strategy in the US.
A Manchester City statement said: "Verizon is one of the world’s leading providers of technology, communications, information and entertainment products and services.
"The company offers data, video and voice services and solutions on its award-winning networks and platforms, delivering on customers’ demand for mobility, reliable network connectivity, security and control.
"As the club continues to explore new ways to engage with Manchester City fans across the globe, the new partnership will build on the successful expansion and growth of the club within the US market in recent years.
"Throughout the partnership, Manchester City and Verizon will work closely to explore new opportunities to innovate and activate within the US."
