Manchester City set to give run-outs to big guns in friendly against EFL side

Premier League champions Manchester City are building up towards Saturday's Community Shield fixture.

The game against FA Cup holders Leicester City is the curtain-raiser to the 2021-22 campaign. It takes place at Wembley on Saturday teatime - the same day as the vast majority of the teams in the Championship, League One and League Two start their season.

Pep Guardiola's side have now arranged a behind-closed-doors bounce match as they look to ramp up preparations for that game.

They'll take on newly-promoted Championship side Blackpool at their Academy Stadium tonight (6pm).

It is likely to see a strong City side take to the field.

Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Bernardo Silva have now all returned following their excursions at this summer's Euros and all three could be involved against the Tangerines.

Blackpool chief Neil Critchley said: “There’s no better test than going to play against Manchester City.

"They’ll have top, top quality players playing and I’m sure our players and staff will be looking forward to it.

“It will be good to give the players some more minutes in their legs, and I’m sure they will feel it playing against Manchester City!”

Other stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Ruben Dias could also feature tonight.
