Sergio Agüero is hoping to make his return against Liverpool on Saturday after almost six weeks out.
The striker has not played for Manchester City since scoring five in the 6-1 demolition of Newcastle United on 3 October, sustaining a hamstring injury soon after while on duty with Argentina.
“I do hope I can play in this game. I’m doing everything in my power to get to the match in top condition,” he said.
“It’s been a frustrating time. Obviously the game against Newcastle [on 3 October]was special because it’s not every week you get to score five goals in one game!
“I was playing in the pre-youth divisions for Independiente and it was the first important tournament that I’d participated in. We played against a local team and won 7-0 and I scored five times but it doesn’t happen too often, does it?
“I managed to score four against Tottenham last season, which was the most I’d scored as a professional up to that point.”
Agüero also paid tribute to his former City team-mate James Milner, who moved to Anfield in the summer and is expected to captain them on Saturday.
“He’s a great player, though it will be odd to see him wearing another team’s colours,” he said. “He is a true professional and I’m sure he’s going to come against us with everything he’s got.
“It should be a great game. Jürgen Klopp has come in and he’s a great addition to the Premier League.
“I’ve stated before that it’s a good thing that the best players and managers come to England – it makes it one of the most competitive tournaments in the whole world.
“Klopp did a great job at Dortmund and that secured his spot in the Premier League. I’m sure he’ll have the time he needs to adapt.”
