Sergio Agüero may miss Manchester City’s trip to Stoke City at the weekend, with fears growing at the club that the foot injury he suffered in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Southampton is more serious than first thought.
Agüero was forced out of a win that took City back to the top of the Premier League after 64 minutes. Manuel Pellegrini later stated he had been taken off as precaution, a sentiment the forward echoed when leaving the stadium, with Agüero joking he could play “tomorrow” if required.
However, when assessed on Sunday, the problem was revealed to be more serious. Agüero may now be unavailable for the Stoke match and the Champions League final group game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
City still hope to win Group D in order to try and land a more favourable last-16 draw though even if they defeat Mönchengladbach, Sevilla would have to beat Juventus to allow them to overhaul the Italian side.
City play Hull City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening in a Capital One Cup quarter-final, a match Agüero may have been rested for anyway as he had only just returned from his latest hamstring injury.
