Raheem Sterling will miss at least six weeks following the groin injury he suffered in Manchester City’s defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, with the forward “totally focused” on his recovery and being available for Euro 2016.

If the 21-year-old is available again as scheduled he will have around a month to regain full fitness before the championship finals. England’s opening match is against Russia on 11 June.

Following scans on the injury, which occurred after 26 minutes of the 1-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium, Sterling has been told six weeks is required to heal the strain.

It is understood the forward is in a positive frame of mind and “totally focused” on being back as soon as possible, though whether he can play again for City this season remains in the balance.
