Manchester City's net spend after 2019 summer transfers

Manchester City have confirmed their squad for the Premier League after a busy summer transfer window.

Eager to build on the successes of last year, Pep Guardiola invested heavily in his squad as City look to secure their third consecutive league crown.

The Citizens were also able to offload a number of fringe players to lower their wage bill and put funds towards future transfers.

Their biggest purchase of the summer was the capture of Rodri from Atletico Madrid. The Spaniard impressed under Diego Simeone in La Liga and Guardiola identified the midfielder as the perfect long-term replacement for Fernandinho in defensive midfield.

It took a club record fee to prise him from Spain, City paying £63million to complete the deal.

On deadline day, City opened their chequebook again, this time to land Joao Cancelo from Juventus. The Portuguese spent just one year in Turin before moving to Manchester and has garnered a reputation as one of the world's best attacking full-backs.

His versatility will be extremely attractive to the City boss as the former Valencia man can be deployed as a winger or on the left of defence. The deal to sign Cancelo cost City around £58m but was subsidised by Danilo heading the other direction for £33m.

City also secured the signings of Angelino (£10m) and Pedro Porro (£10m) while Zack Steffen's transfer from Columbus Crew was made official for £7m prior to him being loaned to Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Youngster Ryotaro Meshino was signed for a nominal fee while Scott Carson joined on loan from Derby.

After falling down the pecking order, City managed to offload Fabian Delph to Everton while Douglas Luiz was snapped up by newly-promoted Aston Villa.

The club were able to shift Eliaquim Mangala's wages off the bill as the Frenchman joined Valencia on a free while club legend Vincent Kompany departed for Anderlecht freeing up more funds.
