Manchester City's Bernardo Silva hands man-of-the-match award over to match-winner Phil Foden

Bernardo Silva generously handed his man-of-the-match award over to his young teammate Phil Foden after Manchester City’s crucial 1-0 win over Tottenham.

Foden, 18, scored his first Premier League goal with a diving header at the end of well-timed run into the Spurs box early in the first half at the Etihad.

And although Silva was undoubtedly the star of the show, gliding through midfield and fighting to the end when things got nervous for the champions, he insisted the local boy deserved the award.

“I would like to thank hand it over to Phil,” Bernardo said, as Foden tried to resist in good British custom. “I honestly think he deserves it, he’s so young, he’s a fantastic player, and this one’s for you. He scored the winner, so congratulations.”
