Manchester City reveal full Billy McNeill tribute plans

Manchester City have released details on their memorial plans for former boss Billy McNeill .

City posted a glowing remembrance on their club website after McNeill's passing on Monday but players didn't wear black armbands in the 2-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday.

But Pep Guardiola's side will hail Cesar in their next home game against Brendan Rodgers' Leicester on May 6.

McNeill led City to promotion to the First Division and spent three years in the hotseat at Maine Road.

A club spokesperson told Record Sport : "Manchester City was saddened to hear that former manager Billy McNeill had passed away earlier this week.

"The club’s condolences were shared through the Manchester City website, and a wreath was laid in the club’s memorial garden by club ambassador and former player, Mike Summerbee.

"Black armbands will be worn by Manchester City players at the club’s next home fixture on Monday 6th May.

"The thoughts of everybody at Manchester City are with Billy’s family at this difficult time."

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have released their tribute plans to remember the legendary Lisbon Lions boss who managed the Midlands club during the 1986/1987 season.

A Villa statement read: "We can confirm that our players will wear black armbands at Sunday’s game against Leeds United in memory of our former manager, Billy McNeill, who died earlier this week."
