Manchester City are into the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League after a 1-1 second-leg draw at Brondby.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, City put themselves in a comfortable position after the England striker Toni Duggan scored with a fine strike in the 64th minute.

Despite a Nanna Christiansen equaliser, City held on to their aggregate lead and progressed to the last eight of Europe’s elite club competition.

The reigning champions, Lyon, put in the most dominant performance of the round as they saw off FC Zurich with a 17-0 aggregate win. Sweden’s Rosengard beat Slavia Prague 3-0 at home to record a 6-1 aggregate win and the Danish club Fortuna beat Brescia 4-1 on aggregate.

Barcelona won 4-0 at FC Twente to seal a 5-0 victory over both legs.

The draw for the quarter-finals and semis will be made on 25 November.
