It's fair to say that there are two parts to Manchester City's story as a Premier League team.
The club was transformed in 2008 when Sheikh Mansour officially took over, with the new owner overseeing £1.5 billion spent on players over the last 13 years.
In that time, City have won the Premier League five times, becoming one of the top teams in English football whilst attracting some of the best players in the world.
Before Mansour, City had been a mid-table side who often flirted with relegation, and last dropped into English football's second tier in 2001.
In the shadow of Manchester United, City had struggled to maintain consistency for years as they worked on a far smaller budget.
While plenty made the grade at City, both pre- and post-takeover, there have been a few who struggled to make the required impact.
Here, we look at the players who made just one appearance in the Premier League, why they could never kick on at City and what happened next.
Scott Carson
The veteran goalkeeper joined as a homegrown player needed on Manchester City's list, but has been kept on now for his third season - after initially being on loan for his first two seasons.
Football director Txiki Begiristain explained that Carson had been brought back this season on a permanent because of his leadership and knowledge in the dressing room.
Carson was given his Premier League debut for City last season once the league was wrapped up.
He'll continue as the number three behind Ederson and Zack Steffen, with his current contract set to expire in the summer.
Reece Wabara
Wabara joined City as a teenager from Walsall and quickly became captain of the Under-16 side.
He would continue progressing through the youth teams before eventually making his debut, replacing Pablo Zabaleta at right-back on the final game of the 2010-11 season.
After this, he would have four loan spells away from the club before leaving permanently in 2014.
At the age of 25, he retired from football and founded the fashion brand Maniere De Voir.
Ryan McGivern
The Northern Irish left-back enjoyed a number of successful loan spells - six to be exact - but only managed one game for City.
He joined Hibs, before spending time with a number of teams in the Championship and League One.
He is now back in Northern Ireland playing for Newry City.
Gunnar Nielsen
The keeper from the Faroe Islands made his debut as a sub for the injured Shay Given against Arsenal - becoming the only player from his country to play in the Premier League.
He signed an extension after the game, but never played again for City and would spend loan spells away from the club before leaving permanently.
He's now playing football in Iceland.
Glauber
The Brazilian defender was one of the first signings after Sheikh Mansour's arrival, but made just one appearance off the bench for City.
A fan favourite, Glauber was cheered every time he touched the ball by Manchester City fans, got a mini-standing ovation when he took a throw-in.
He returned to Brazil after one season in Manchester, before retiring three years later.
Sam Williamson
A graduate from the youth team, Williamson came on for Richard Dunne in 2008 after impressing in the reserve team.
However, he was released the following season and went on to make less than 30 appearances in his career before retiring at the age of 23.
Ray Kelly
The Irish striker made just one solo start for Manchester City, against Huddersfield Town in 1997.
He would leave the club a year later before playing in Ireland for Bohemians.
Just three years later, Kelly retired from football to become an airline pilot.
