Manchester City’s players have returned to training on Wednesday ahead of their visit to Chelsea this weekend after there were doubts surrounding the fixture being fulfilled and the closure of City's training ground.
City’s match against Everton on Tuesday was postponed after an outbreak of positive Covid-19 tests at the club and five City players are currently self-isolating.
Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker had already tested positive for coronavirus on Christmas Day along with two staff members.City also reported more positive results on Monday and their training ground was closed for an “indefinite period.”
That period has just been three days as it has reopened on Wednesday afternoon after the latest round of covid results came back and it showed no new positive cases of the virus.
In a statement, City said: “Manchester City FC can confirm that first team training will resume at City Football Academy this afternoon (Wednesday).
“The full Covid-19 bubble underwent testing yesterday, and results have so far revealed no new positive cases.
“Safety remains our number one priority, and the Club will continue to proceed with great caution.
“The first team training buildings have undergone a deep clean over the past 48 hours, and the majority of these facilities will remain closed, with only essential operations around training resuming.
“The bubble will undergo further testing in the coming days, the results of which will inform and dictate the next steps.
“Everyone at Manchester City continues to wish speedy recoveries to all of our colleagues who remain in self isolation following their positive tests.”
As it stands, the game at Stamford Bridge looks set to go ahead but the City players will be tested again over the coming days.
Tottenham Hotspur’s match with Fulham on Wednesday night is the second match to be postponed because of a covid outbreak, this time within the Fulham squad and the match will be played at a later date.
