Manchester City player Bernardo Silva stuns fans by turning up at an over 50s club night

Manchester City player Bernardo Silva was a surprise visitor to an over 50s club night in Manchester.

The 25-year-old Portuguese midfielder partied to soul, Northern Soul, 50s 60s and Motown music at the My Generation night at Matt and Phreds on Tib Street.

Bernardo got into the spirit of the club night posing with a customised Mod tartan shopping trolley clad with music badges and complete with wing mirrors.

The footballer, who joined City in 2017, spent a couple of hours at the event enjoying the music and chatting to fellow guests.

"He was lovely," said an onlooker.

"A few City fans spotted him and he was very warm and friendly."

My Generation was founded by Crumpsall resident Joyce Gill 10 years ago and since then there's been a host of successful events held across the Manchester region.

The night has been relaunched for 2020 managed by Tracey Annette who wants to create a ‘safe space’ for the older generation to come together and relive the moves and music with quality music from that era.

More events are being planned for later this year with club nights in Tameside and Rochdale.

Tracey said: “The foundations of Manchester music scene were laid in 50s and 60s, with a strong blues and soul heritage.

“Matt and Phreds was the best location in the city for My Generation because it’s an intimate music venue, very relaxed and friendly, with lots of seats.

"My Generation is aimed at the over 50s and people who love music from that era. It was great to meet Bernardo Silva, and he seemed to really enjoy the music and vibe in Matt and Phreds."
