Manchester City match 45-year-old Leeds United record following win over Arsenal

Raheem Sterling's second-minute goal for Manchester City saw Pep Guardiola's side match a 45-year-old record set by Leeds United on Sunday.

The Citizens secured a 1-0 win at the Emirates to further strengthen their grip at the top of the Premier League table, where they enjoy a ten-point gap over their neighbours Manchester United.

Arsenal failed to build on their 4-2 victory over Leeds the previous weekend, but the Whites name was banded around in the post-match analysis, as the Gunners saw an unwanted record matched.

This was Manchester City's eighth league win in a row against Arsenal which is now the joint-longest run of consecutive league defeats the Gunners have suffered against a single opponent.

Does Bielsa think Shackleton played well in midfield?

This matches Leeds United's run of eight leagues win a row against the London side which they achieved between 1973 and 1976, which marked the conclusion of the Elland Road side's golden age.

That run kicked off with a 6-1 thrashing of the Gunners in May 1973, in Leeds' final game of the season and first game after their shock FA Cup final defeat to Sunderland and culiminated with a 2-1 Elland Road win in October 1976.

Whites fans will now have to wait until next season to see if City are able to eclipse this mark.

City have now won 18 matches in a row, with Leeds' return fixture at the Etihad Stadium set for April 10.
