Manchester City joined the sea shanty TikTok craze with a bizarre yet delightful video

Manchester City F.C. couldn’t help but join in on the craze that’s taking over TikTok. People are singing sea shanties.

A particularly catchy sea shanty, “Wellerman” by the Longest Johns, is turning into an Internet sensation, with people singing or lip-syncing to the song on TikTok. The social media team for Manchester City got in on it.

The team posted a video to Twitter that featured Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne lip-syncing to the song. But it wasn’t actually them. It was just a picture of the four players, which the social team had animated to look like it was singing. And if you’re thinking, that sounds weird and freaky, then you’re right. It was. But it was also delightful, because this sea shanty is awesome. Check it out.

Strange, scintillating, striking — this video is all of that. (And, yes, striking is a (really awful) soccer pun. I wanted to make sure no one missed that one.)
