Manchester City injury scare as Nathan Ake hobbles off during Netherlands friendly

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has limped off during the opening stages of Netherlands' friendly with Spain in an injury scare for the Premier League side.

With less than five minutes on the clock, a seemingly innocuous back pass to goalkeeper Marco Bizot saw Ake collapse to the pitch clutching the back of right leg.

The centre-back was replaced by Daley Blind.

Ake's possible hamstring injury comes on the same day as a potentially serious setback to Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez, who broken down during England training.

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate told reporters: "What was upsetting was to see he was in a fair bit of pain and the fact was there was nobody around him when the injury happened, so I didn't like that element of it.

"But we've just got to wait and see what the scans show and we're all hopeful for him that it's not what it might be."
