Manchester City handed Sergio Aguero injury boost with Arsenal in striker's sights

Sergio Aguero has resumed full training with Manchester City following his recovery from knee surgery.

Aguero, City's all-time leading goalscorer, has not played since June 22.

The 32-year-old suffered a knee in a 5-0 win over Burnley, with the injury forcing him to undergo surgery.

That ruled Aguero out of City's Champions League knockout ties against  Real Madrid and Lyon, while he has also missed the start of this season.

But with the international break now for Aguero to get his fitness levels up, the forward could make the bench for City's Premier League clash at home to Arsenal on October 17.

Aguero's return will be a major boost for Guardiola, who has also lost Gabriel Jesus to injury in the early weeks of the season.

The Brazilian started in the opening day win over Wolves, but hasn't featured since.

Riyad Mahrez operated as the focal point of the attack in the 1-1 weekend draw at Leeds, with Raheem Sterling from the left and Ferran Torres down the right.

And while Mahrez is undoubtedly talented, he lacks the unquestioned penalty box nous of Aguero.

Guardiola has previously been cautious over Aguero's return, claiming in September that it would likely be November before he returned to action.

"He has to come back on the pitch and regain the physical condition," said Guardiola.

"Sergio was a long time and Sergio is not a guy who regains the physical condition quick."

Now he may be set for minutes on October 17, with the Champions League beginning shortly after.
