Manchester City favourite reveals the very best thing about the Newcastle United takeover

Newcastle United fans will be waking up in jubilant mood this morning.

The club's takeover is, according to reports, just a tick in a box away from being completed with the Premier League said to be working to approve the deal as we speak.

Supporters will be delighted that owner Mike Ashley's reign as St. James' Park is almost over as well as excited at what a future with extremely wealthy owners PCP Capital Partners could have in store.

But former Manchester City star Trevor Sinclair has revealed what he believes is the very best thing about the takeover reports.

The 47-year-old, who turned out 82 times for the Citizens, knows all about Middle Eastern takeovers but was not as impressed by their financial power as he was by their intent to inject huge investment into the Newcastle's youth system.

“Any player who played at St. James Park in the late 90s will be excited by the takeover news," Sinclair told TalkSport.

“That place was buzzing when they had the quality on the pitch with [Alan] Shearer and John Barnes.

“The problem lately has been that the fans have fallen out with Mike Ashley.

“But this is very exciting for Newcastle fans and for football fans.”

He continued: “The money that they have is incredible. We have never heard money of that sort linked with football ownership.

“Newcastle United will become the richest club in the world, I would imagine.

“But the best thing about it all is that they want to invest in the academy.

“Anybody who knows football knows how important it is to bring up good young players and to get them into the first team.

“That was very, very good to hear.”
