Manchester City fans react to Phil Foden's stunning free-kick for England U21s

Manchester City star Phil Foden sent another reminder of what he can offer with an eye-catching free-kick for England Under 21s.

The 19-year-old was named in the starting XI for Aidy Boothroyd's side's UEFA 2021 Qualifying clash with Albania on Friday evening.

A win for England would continue their 100% start to Group C after three wins from their opening three matches.

It took just 22 minutes to get the ball rolling as Foden opened the scoring for England with a superb curling free-kick from 20 yards that left Manchester City fans purring. He later set up Conor Gallagher for England's second.

Foden has made eight appearances for City this season as he looks to continue his development as one of Europe's most exciting midfielders.

Pep Guardiola has praised the youngster highly and there is a belief around the Etihad Stadium that he will fill the void left by David Silva when he leaves the club at the end of the season.

Foden showed a glimpse of his early attempts to replicate the Spaniard's quality, with a curling set-piece that 'merlin', as Silva is often nicknamed, would have been proud of.

Some even called for Foden to receive a senior call-up after his fourth goal in 14 U21 caps.

That left City fans feeling positive about the future and here's a round-up of everything they had to say on Twitter.
