Manchester City fans react as Ferran Torres ruled out for six weeks

Manchester City are set to be without star man Ferran Torres for up to six week.

The 21-year-old has picked up a foot injury whilst on international duty with Spain, with fears that he may not return until December.

The Spaniard has established himself as a preferred option up front at the club, playing in the false 9 position for Pep Guardiola.

This week, Torres starred for Spain over the past fortnight as they defeated Euro 2020 winners Italy in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League. They would go on to lose to France after a controversial Kylian Mbappe goal after a wonderful Karim Benzema effort.

Despite picking up the injury in the semi-final, Torres was named in the starting line-up for the final, before being substituted once again.

Now, scans have revealed that Torres is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

City have 11 games to navigate during this next six week spell, including a Premier League derby at Old Trafford, the next round of the Carabao Cup, and Champions League fixtures against Club Brugge home and away as well as Paris Saint-Germain. Torres is also almost certain to miss important games for Spain next month as they look to confirm qualification for the 2022 World Cup.

And it's fair to say that City fans are not happy with Spain's decision to feature Torres, potentially exacerbating his injury.

Moe Cityzen said: "I just can't understand how did Spain play him."

Sergio said: "No striker FC’s only usable striker is out injured, you can’t write it."

Liz said: "He clearly got injured in the semi, why was he allowed to play in the final? This same thing happened with Kevin. We should be withdrawing players from these international breaks if it is not safe for them to play."

But while Torres' loss is a huge blow for City, it may very well be a boost for Raheem Sterling.

City's number 7 has been the odd man out since Jack Grealish's arrival, but could see more playing time in the absence of Torres.

Don said: "Well, on the bright side of things, it’s an opportunity for Sterling to get much needed game time and to rediscover his best form."

Alfie said: "It's time for Sterling to step up - now is his time!"
