Manchester City fans love what Kevin De Bruyne said about John Stones

Manchester City supporters believe Kevin De Bruyne hit the nail on the head in his defence of John Stones after the Blues defender's error contributed to England's defeat in the Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands.

Stones was caught in possession after dithering over a pass, with a combination of Quincy Promes and Kyle Walker handing the Dutch the lead in extra-time on Thursday night.

Ross Barkley then committed a similar mistake for the Netherlands to win 3-1 and end England's hopes of a first international trophy since 1966.

Stones, who lined up at centre-back, was short of options to play out from the back and De Bruyne feels the situation would not have come to pass had Stones been in the blue of City.

"For me, I think he [Stones] played a good game except for the mistake he made," De Bruyne said. "When you play in a team like City where we are used to playing out of the back, we give each other options.

"When you go to a different team and try to do the same but you don't get the options, it's very difficult to play differently. I think everyone knows what John's strengths are, but he can't do it by himself, he needs help there."

And City fans on Twitter felt the Belgium international spoke sense in his assessment.
