Manchester City equal amazing Notts County stat to join Magpies in history books

Manchester City's superstars have joined Notts County in the English football history books after their 5-0 thrashing of Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola's side were in irresistible form as they secured a crushing victory as they look to make up lost ground in the title race.

It was the fourth successive home game that City have hit Burnley for five or more goals and in doing so they equalled a record which had been set by Notts against Port Vale.

From 1897 to 1907, Notts hammered Vale for five or more goals in four successive home games as they became the first side in English football history to achieve such a feat.

Football stats firm OPTA confirmed City had joined the club of which  Notts were only a sole member with a Tweet at the weekend.

It said: "Manchester City are only the second side in Football League history to win four successive home games by 5+ goals against a single opponent in all competitions, after Notts County v Port Vale between October 1893 and February 1907. Thrashing."

Notts, the world's oldest professional club, were in the goals themselves on Friday night as they beat Wealdstone 3-0 at Meadow Lane with a fantastic display of attacking football that took them into the National League's top seven.
