Manchester City defender Issa Kabore reaffirms intention to leave club

Issa Kabore has reiterated that he wishes to stay at loan club Marseille beyond June, after securing a season-long loan from Manchester City.

The 21-year-old has failed to make his senior debut since his 2020 switch from Belgian outfit Mechelen, experiencing temporary spells away at his former side, Ligue 1 club Troyes and now Marseille.

The right-back cost City £4m but the Premier League champions are open to offloading the youngster after attaching an option-to-buy in his latest loan deal. He has featured three times for the French giants, making his Champions League bow in Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Frankfurt.

Earlier this month, Kabore revealed that his “idea is to play and to stay at Marseille” and “not to return to Manchester City.” Now, he has reiterated this intention again when explaining how his move to Marseille came to fruition.

“There were many teams who wanted me and with whom I spoke,” the Burkina Faso international told Foot Mercato. “When I heard that there was Marseille, I said to my agent that I had to calm down and that I had to wait for Marseille.

“When my agent called me, I was with my family, in my room. I called my wife to tell her that I didn’t believe it, that it was Marseille who wanted me. It was incredible. We were really happy.

“My future, I want it to be Marseille. I would like to stay here. I want to leave my mark here. I don’t think it will be difficult, because I already love this club and frankly, I don’t think it will be difficult.”
