Manchester City dealt potentially huge injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester City have been dealt a potentially major injury blow after Ederson was taken off during their UEFA Champions League clash with Atalanta.

The Brazilian goalkeeper, regarded as one of the best in the Premier League, was substituted at the break and replaced by Claudio Bravo with City leading 1-0.

Initial reports described the goalkeeper's problem as a "precautionary injury" which could mean he'll miss Sunday's top-of-the-table fixture.

Liverpool lead Manchester City by six points in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday's game, with the result having the potential to hugely influence the title race.

With Pep Guardiola's side already missing Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane, this is yet another blow for his side.

Having allowed Vincent Kompany to leave the club without a replacement, Laporte's injury leaves only John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi as the club's fit recognised centre-backs.

Fernandinho and Rodri have both filled in that role too, although they are midfielders by trade, with the latter now also missing through injury.

With that in mind, the last thing Guardiola needed was another blow to his patched-up backline, ahead of a trip to the league-leaders.

Bravo has not endured the best time in English football, having bee initially brought in to replace Joe Hart as their number one goalkeeper, he was replaced by Ederson after just one season following a string of mistakes.

To make matters worse, the ex-Barcelona 'keeper was beaten after just four minutes of coming on as Atalanta levelled the game at 1-1, after Bravo had given the ball away with a mis-hit goal-kick.

Bravo was then shown a red card with ten minutes left meaning defender Kyle Walker had to go in goal.
