Manchester City dealt potential injury blow ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been handed an injury scare ahead of their Premier League tussle with Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.

Dutchman Nathan Ake, who joined City in a big-money deal from AFC Bournemouth during the summer transfer window, was forced off just six minutes into the Netherlands' international friendly with Spain on Wednesday evening.

Ake was replaced by former Manchester United man Daley Blind, as the Dutch go in search a third win in four against the 2010 World Cup winners.

At the time of writing, it is unclear what the injury is, but the former Chelsea man has only recently returned from a groin problem.

Should the extent of Ake's injury be a serious one, it could rule him out of City's trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium once the Premier League campaign resumes following the current international break.

Prior to the international break, Ake had played in just one of City's last six matches, playing the full 90 minutes of last week's Champions League win over Greek giants Olympiakos at the Etihad Stadium.

Should this latest injury mean another spell on the sidelines, it could be a significant blow for City chief Guardiola, with the Spaniard already having to have battled against injury troubles already this term.

Star central-defender Aymeric Laporte has made just five appearances so far this term, meaning Guardiola has struggled to name a settled back-line.

Should Ake be ruled out of the trip to the capital, Guardiola will most likely stick with his favoured defensive partnership of fellow summer signing Ruben Dias and Laporte.
