The Women’s Super League title race looks set to go to the wire after Manchester City beat Liverpool to close within two points of the leaders, Chelsea, with two games to play.
Goals in either half from Isobel Christiansen and Natasha Harding gave City a deserved victory from a game they dominated from start to finish. Christiansen turned in Lucy Bronze’s cross to celebrate her call-up to the England squad in style, before Harding dinked a neat finish over Libby Stout for her first goal for the club.
The win puts City three-points above third-placed Arsenal and four clear of Sunderland and boosts their chances of playing in next season’s Champions League. The top two qualify for the tournament but Nick Cushing’s side will retain high hopes of topping the table.
They are unbeaten in 13 games, recording 11 victories during that period, and their remaining league games are both at home, against the bottom side, Bristol, and mid-table Notts County. Chelsea must travel to Liverpool before finishing at home to Sunderland.
