Manchester City and Pep Guardiola get massive injury boost ahead of Arsenal trip

Manchester City have been handed a welcome boost ahead of Sunday afternoon's Premier League encounter with Arsenal.

The two teams are separated by five places and 10 points in the table and will go into the game at the Emirates Stadium on the back of contrasting results.

City lost the Manchester derby last weekend but bounced back to beat Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, while the Gunners won for the first time in nine against West Ham United at the beginning of the week.

Trips to Emirates have been fruitful for Pep Guardiola since taking over at the Eithad Stadium.

He's been there three times as City boss and is yet to suffer a defeat and has tasted victory in each of the last two seasons without conceding a goal.

And there's good news on the fitness front for the visitors ahead of this season's meeting.

Oleksandr Zinchenko will be in contention to make his first Premier League appearance since the 2-0 home defeat by Wolves at the start of October.

The Ukraine international has been sidelined after undergoing knee surgery which caused him to miss City's games against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, he made a return to action on Wednesday evening and played the final 24 minutes of City's win over Zagreb.

Barring any setbacks, Zinchenko is likely to be in the squad to face Arsenal and that will be a massive boost to Guardiola.

City haven't really settled on a first-choice left-back this season with Benjamin Mendy not yet full trusted, while Angelino has looked shaky the games that he's played.

With that said, Man City do have an injury crisis in central defence ahead of the clash with Arsenal.

John Stones limped off after 58 minutes against the Red Devils last weekend and after missing out against Zagreb it's unlikely as to how long he will be out of action for which places him as a doubt to face the Gunners.

The England international's injury means Guardiola is down to just one fit senior centre-back in Nicolas Otamendi.
