Manchester City and England fans fuming over controversial Phil Foden decision

Manchester City fans think Phil Foden's absence was a key reason England U21s exited the European Championships after defeat to Romania.

The 19-year-old made just one start for Man City during the 2018/19 Premier League campaign but did feature 13 times for Pep Guardiola's men.

Fast-forward to the under-21s European Championships and Foden was snubbed from the start for England's group game defeat Romania, despite his showing in the previous game.

Foden bagged the only goal for England in their 2-1 loss to France on Tuesday but certainly proved to be a bright spark once he came on for U21s manager Aidy Boothroyd.

Boothroyd again ignored Foden from the start against Romania before the playmaker made an impact in the second-half of England's 4-2 loss to Romania on Friday evening.

Foden almost scored with a powerful left-footed shot but many Man City fans believe he could have been even more effective had he started the must-win game, with supporters blaming Boothroyd's selection decision in regards to the midfielder for England's early exit from the tournament.

Even non-Man City fans were reacting in the same way on Friday evening.
