Manchester Christmas Markets WILL go ahead this year

Manchester Christmas Manchester will go ahead in 2021.

Councillor Pat Karney, Manchester's Christmas spokesperson, has revealed that "Christmas is not cancelled" in our city and the markets will take place this year.

And he has revealed that Piccadilly Gardens will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland, with surprise plans set to be revealed soon.

Father Christmas will also pit-stop at Peter's Square on his tour of the UK.

Markets will be set up in six locations across the city from November 12 to December 22.

Coun Karney said: "We only decided yesterday, we had to put them through every Public Health test and that's the whole approach to Christmas this year, making it safe for traders and the public.

"We have learnt from the experience of markets over the summer - there will be entrances and exits, strong crowd controls.

"We're delighted we can go ahead with this. Tens of thousands of jobs for people depend on Christmas trade.

"We've all been in lockdown mode for so long and we all ache to get together with friends and family so we're doing everything possible to keep people safe and we're keeping it under review.

"So it's green lights for Manchester markets. Christmas is not cancelled, it's my favourite time of the year and I am the Christmas spokesperson on the council, the only one in the country, so Christmas is definitely going ahead."

Last year, the Manchester Christmas Markets were officially called off in October due to a rapid rise in coronavirus infection rates.

Manchester City Council pulled together a smaller festive market in 2020, to allow the local traders who normally pitch up at the main event to trade in the run-up to Christmas.
