Manchester breweries poke fun at Morrisons over 'geographical fail'

A local brewery has poked fun at supermarket giant Morrisons after it appeared to muddle up Scotland and Manchester.

Marble Brewery's sales manager Paul Plowman shared a photo of a display unit promoting 'breweries in Manchester'.

But the stand in the Whitefield Morrisons store was actually stacked with beers that weren't exactly local to the region.

Morrisons has since said that the display was an error, and that they do stock several local drinks brands, including Seven Brothers and Shindigger.

But instead of displaying some of the brilliant beers brewed on home turf, the shelves showed off cans of BrewDog and Brew York.

BrewDog, while it has a huge bar and hotel here in Manchester, is based in Ellon in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Brew York's a little closer to Greater Manchester, with its brewery in Yorkshire - but still a good 75 miles away in York.

After Paul posted his tweet, inviting Morrisons to email him at Marble 'if you want to support breweries actually IN Manchester', local beer fans joined in with the jokes.

One person quipped: "Someone needs to buy them a map."

Another said: "This feels like one of those clips where an American pop star gets on stage in a regional town and shouts 'hello London'."

Someone else wrote: "Brewdog, brewed in the Scottish District of Manchester"

When contacted by the Manchester Evening News , Morrisons supplied the list of all the locally-owned distilleries and breweries it does stock.

The Spirit of Manchester Distillery (home of Manchester Gin), the City of Manchester Distillery (which produces Three Rivers), Tameside Distillery, Zymurgorium, Seven Bro7hers Brewery, Shindigger Brewery and Boddington's Brewery can all be found in store.
