Manchester band The 1975 announce huge arena tour including hometown gig

Manchester-formed group The 1975 have announced details of the UK and Ireland leg of their tour, including an arena date in Manchester. Matty Healy’s indie rock band will be heading out on the road for a 12-date tour from January next year.

The ‘At Their Very Best’ tour supports their fifth studio album and will see them take to the stage at arenas across the country. The group have also released ‘I’m In Love With You’, the third track from their upcoming album ‘Being Funny in A Foreign Language’.

The news was announced last night by lead singer Matt Healy on Clara Amfo’s Future Sounds BBC Radio 1 radio show. Healy was appearing on the show initially to promote the new single, which had been selected as Amfo’s ‘Hottest Record’.

The upcoming UK and Ireland tour will kick off on January 8 in Brighton and run until January 30 in Belfast. They’ll be stopping off at Manchester’s AO Arena on Friday, January 20, as well as hitting up venues in cities including Nottingham, Glasgow and Leeds.

Their latest single follows the release of new songs ‘Happiness’ and ‘Part of the Band’, To date, the Manchester born-and-bred band have had all four of their previous albums top the UK album charts, including their debut back in 2013.

The band’s success is illustrated by the number of awards they have won and accolades bestowed on them. Back in 2020, they were named Band of the Decade by NME. They’ve also scooped three BRIT Awards, two Q Awards and two Ivor Novello awards.

Tickets will be available for presale from Wednesday, September 7, before general sale kicks off on Friday, September 9.
