Manchester Arndale will be the scene for a massive 999 training exercise tonight - and police say it's nothing to worry about

An emergency services training exercise is taking place at Manchester Arndale this evening (February 13).

Police are reassuring anybody in the area at the time to not be concerned if they hear loud noises coming from the centre.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police, alongside North West Ambulance Service staff and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service crews are all taking part in the pre-planned training operation.

The exercise has been organised to make sure officers have training for real-life situations.

"During this time, if you are within the area – you may hear loud noises coming from the centre however please do not be alarmed or concerned.

"This activity forms part of GMP’s on-going commitment to ensure officers have substantial training in real-life scenarios.

"There is nothing to suggest an immediate threat in Greater Manchester."

It was announced last year a major training exercise would be taking place in 2020 following the Manchester Arena attack.

A report commissioned to address the progress of dozens of recommendations made in the Kerslake Report, which assessed how the atrocity was tackled, said a 'multi-agency' training exercise would take place.

In the past the emergency services have staged a mock terror attack at the Trafford Centre and a disaster exercise at Dovestone Reservoir.
