Manchester Arndale's new prosecco bar shuts after just five months - and tapas restaurant pulls out of Halle Place development

Manchester Arndale's new prosecco bar has shut after just five months - while one of the restaurants signed up to open alongside it in Halle Place has pulled out of the development.

FIZZ! by Frizzenti was the centrepiece of the shopping centre's £11m food quarter when it opened in November in the heart of the atrium off Market Street.

A spokesman for the bar confirmed it had closed 'temporarily until further notice' but declined to comment further. Manchester Arndale said it was liaising with the operator on 'future reopening options'.

Meanwhile, restaurant chain Tapas Revolution has confirmed it will no longer be opening at the shopping centre.

Manchester's food and drink scene is the fastest-growing in the country

The group, founded by Spanish TV chef Omar Allibhoy, is understood to be focusing on locations in other cities.

A spokesman said the business had decided Manchester 'wasn't for them' given the strength of the city's existing Spanish restaurant scene.

“Manchester is oversaturated with Spanish restaurants - there are eight within half a mile," Allibhoy told industry publication MCA Insight.

"We didn’t feel we would add enough with a ninth, and thought it better to invest in places with less risk.”

It leaves just Wolf Italian Street Food and Barburrito currently open in the new dining quarter, with burger and milkshake bar Archie's set to join them in April.

There are still six units left to be let. A Manchester Arndale spokeswoman said they were in discussions with a range of food and drink operators and wanted to 'take the time to get the mix right'.

A massive steak restaurant is opening at First Street in Manchester - though booze is off the table

"The FIZZ! bar by Frizzenti at Manchester Arndale has now closed. We continue to liaise with the operator on future reopening options," she said.

“We are curating a bespoke mix of restaurants at Halle Place to bring an offer that cannot be found anywhere else in the city centre.

"We want to take the time to get the mix right, and a local favourite like Archie’s is the perfect addition. We’re looking forward to their opening soon, and to announcing more exciting new names in the near future."
