Manchester Arndale Centre stabbing: Boy, 16, knifed multiple times near shopping complex

A 16-year-old boy was repeatedly stabbed near one of the country’s busiest shopping centres today.

He was rushed to hospital and is said to be in a stable condition after being found injured on Church Street, Manchester, next to the Arndale Centre.

No arrests have been made and a cordon is in place following the incident, shortly before 4.30pm.

Images showed police descend upon the area, with ambulances also at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police detective inspector Jen Tattersall said: “This is an awful incident, which has left a teenage boy in hospital and my thoughts are with him as he receives treatment.

“I understand that this incident and a large police presence in the city centre is likely to cause concern among members of the public.

“However, I would like to reassure those worried that we believe this to be an isolated incident.

“This happened in a busy part of town and at a busy time of the day, and as such, there are bound to have been witnesses.”

North West Ambulance Service said it attended the scene at 4.21pm and took a person to hospital, but would not confirm any further details.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
