Manchester Arena terror attack appeal raises final total £21.6 million for victims

An appeal set up to support victims of the Manchester Arena terror attack has raised £21.6million, fundraisers have revealed.

The We Love Manchester Emergency Fund was set up following the bombing, which killed 22 people and injured hundreds more after an Ariana Grande concert two years ago.

It stopped taking donations in January. Most of the cash has been given to bereaved families, but it has also helped survivors injured or traumatised by the attack.

Edith Conn, chairwoman of the fund’s trustees, said: “Those who donated have helped many, many people who suffered during that incident.”

She added: “As the second anniversary approaches, our thoughts as always are with all those affected by the attack.”

The charity said it still had around £1.1million to distribute, which will go to those still needing medical support.

Suicide bomber Salman Abedi, 22, from Manchester, detonated his device in the foyer as crowds left following Grande’s show on May 22, 2017.

The One Love Manchester gig, organised by the star the following month, helped raise over £7million for the fund.
