Manchester Airport terminal evacuated after reports of ‘suspicious package’

PA

Manchester Airport’s Terminal Two will reopen after a suspicious package reported there was deemed not to be a security threat, an airport spokesperson has said.

Greater Manchester Police is “satisfied” that the object poses no danger and has therefore lifted the cordon, they said in a statement.

“We thank passengers for their patience and will reopen Terminal Two later this evening,” the airport spokesperson added.

The suspicious item was reported to the police at around 3.20 pm on Tuesday afternoon, leading to “standard procedure” being followed, including the evacuation of the terminal building.

While Greater Manchester Police assessed the situation at Terminal Two, its flights were moved to Terminal One.

Photos from earlier on Tuesday showed a large police presence around the terminal, which had been cordoned off.

Due to the closure of Terminal Two, flights were delayed by around five hours, according to the Manchester Evening News.
