Manchester Airport Metrolink line 'part suspended' due to car on tracks

Trams on the Manchester Airport line have been part suspended after a car ended up on the tracks.

It's understood the vehicle became stranded between Sale Water Park and Barlow Moor Road in Chorlton just after 11am on Saturday.

Photos show the car - which appears to be a Fiat - well and truly wedged onto the tracks, while a tram stands at a halt behind it.

As it stands, Metrolink services are only able to run between Sale Water Park and Manchester Airport.

Passengers are able to use their tickets on a number of bus routes.

Metrolink tweeted: "Due to a vehicle blocking the track. Manchester Airport line is currently part suspended.

"Services will run between Sale Water Park and Manchester Airport.

"Tickets are being accepted on the 11,23,43,101,102,103 bus services. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

It is not known at this stage how long it will take to remove the vehicle from the tracks.

As it stands, all other Metrolink services are currently running as normal.
