Manas Dhamne qualifies for junior Wimbledon Championships

NEW DELHI: Manas Dhamne, a young tennis player, secured a place in the boys' singles main draw at Wimbledon with a hard-fought victory over 10th seed Atakan Karahan in London on Friday. However, Aryan Shah was unable to advance, experiencing a second-round defeat.

In the final qualifying round, the 15-year-old Dhamne, ranked 78th in the junior ITF rankings, triumphed over his Turkish opponent with a score of 6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-8.

Dhamne had an opportunity to close out the match in the second set with two match points but was pushed to a decider by Karahan, ranked 69th.

This will be Dhamne's second appearance in a junior Grand Slam event this season, following his participation in the Australian Open, where he retired in the second round.

The young player, who trains at the Piatti Tennis Centre in Italy, showcased his skills earlier this year at the Tata Open Maharashtra and received praise from former Indian players despite losing to American Michael Mmoh.

Dhamne is set to commence his campaign in the main draw against Hayden Jones of Australia, who is currently ranked 47th in the world.

In contrast, Aryan Shah, the fourth seed, faced a 3-6, 3-6 defeat at the hands of 11th seed Fabio De Michele from Italy, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.
