Manager steps in to save the day when 12-year-old couple's date goes wrong

Restaurant staff have been praised after rescuing a young couple who went in for a date - and lost their money.

The 12-year-old love birds went tio Pizza Express for a meal together but when they got there realised they had lost much of the money they'd set aside for the dinner.

Mum Zoe Hayes revealed what happened after her son called to tell her what was going on, reports  Edinburgh Live.

She was put through to the manager at the chain when he son handed over the phone.

Zoe wrote: "My son text me worrying and asking what they should do.

"I rang him and asked to speak to the waiter/waitress to check if I would be able to pay over the phone with my card.

"It was passed to the manager who said we'll see what it comes to, and if it's not much over how much they have, then we can waive the extra.

"I thought that was very kind, but was anticipating a call later on to pay the difference.

"The manager then called back a few minutes later to say not to worry, they would cover it, so I figured he'd seen what they'd already ordered and decided it wouldn't be too much.

How to save money when dining out

"He then told them to order what they wanted and they'd deal with the bill at the end. No longer worrying, they enjoyed a great meal."

She added: "So I was surprised when my son arrived home to find that the manager had waived the whole bill and told him to put away the money they did have. The bill was around £35.

"Such a kind gesture that made the difference between the day going wrong and them having a great experience. I'd like to say a big thank you to the staff and manager at Pizza Express, North Bridge, Edinburgh, for looking after them so well."

After the post was shared on social media on Sunday scores of people were keen to praise the actions of staff at the restaurant.

Holly Marsh posted: "Oh my god that's so lovely."

And Finn P Goddard added: "Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story. Generosity and kindness is a gorgeous gift and one which your lovely son and girlfriend will remember always."
