Manager speaks out on 'absolutely ridiculous' Nottingham Forest transfer claim

It was a successful end to the January transfer window for Nottingham Forest as they wrapped up deadline day deals for striker Sam Surridge and defender Jonathan Panzo.

They followed Keinan Davis, Steve Cook and Richie Laryea through the door at the City Ground as Steve Cooper strengthened his squad amid the chase for a play-off place.

Perhaps most crucially, prized asset Brennan Johnson will remain with the Reds despite Premier League interest in the talented attacker.

There were a couple of late disappointments, with bids for wingers Josh Bowler of Blackpool and Jed Wallace of Millwall falling short.

The Reds are believed to have submitted several offers for Wallace, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Despite the prospect of losing Wallace for nothing the summer, Millwall held firm.

Lions manager Gary Rowett, the former Derby County and Stoke City boss, has dismissed speculation the club were demanding as much as £9million for the 27-year-old.

“I’ve read countless stories on countless players that were either coming in, going out, players we’ve put bids in for,” Rowett told NewsAtDen ahead of Monday’s deadline.

“I would say 50 per cent there is some truth to it, 50 per cent is probably pie in the sky.

“Jed’s one that there was so much speculation, that teams had bid and we’re being awkward. I read one that we wanted £9million or something, absolutely ridiculous stories.

“We’re aware of Jed’s contractual situation. We’re also aware that he’s a player that has given everything to this club and he’s completely committed to this club while he’s under contract.”

NewsAtDen reported that the bids submitted by Forest were of less than £2million.
