Manager responds to transfer links with Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Moore has played down speculation linking the club with Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy.

Rovers have been one of four League One clubs linked with a move for Murphy this summer, along with Burton Albion, Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers.

The latter three clubs are understood to have made a move for the Irishman prior to Thursday’s 5pm transfer deadline for Championship and Premier League clubs.

Murphy is out of favour at Forest, having been told by boss Sabri Lamouchi he’s free to leave the City Ground.

The transfer window for League One and League Two clubs to sign players on permanent or loan deals remains open until 5pm on September 2.

A move to Ipswich, who Murphy netted 67 goals in 225 appearances during his time at East Anglia, is understood to be unlikely to happen this summer.

Moore, who took over as head coach at Doncaster this summer, has played down the rumours that Murphy could move to the Keepmoat Stadium.

“We've been linked with him and a host of others because of his availability,” Moore told the Doncaster Free Press.

He added: “Daryl is a great player, seasoned pro and I can understand why we've been linked with him.

“But me revealing who we've been linked with would be wrong.”
