Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returns to Manchester United training amid job scrutiny after 5-0 loss to Liverpool

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will stay on as Manchester United manager for at least the next three games, after he returned to training with the squad in the wake of the weekend's humiliating 5-0 loss to Liverpool.

The rout at Old Trafford left United with just one point from its last four English Premier League games.

United did not make any public statements in the immediate aftermath of the defeat, which Solskjaer admitted had seen the club hit "rock bottom".

But on Monday the club's Twitter account posted: "Ole is setting his sights on United's next three games in a bid to fight back."

That means Solskjaer will be in charge for Saturday's EPL clash with Tottenham, then an away match against Atalanta in the Champions League followed by the derby against Manchester rivals City in the Premier League.

United is eight points behind leader Chelsea in the Premier League after nine games.

Solskjaer has been unable to win a trophy since replacing José Mourinho as manager in December 2018.

Before the start of the season, the former United striker was handed a new three-year contract despite a distant second-place finish behind Manchester City in the league.

While the team was booed off the field at Old Trafford after being embarrassed by Liverpool, the Norwegian faced no abuse during 10 minutes signing autographs and posing for selfies with fans outside the stadium later in the evening.
