Manager issues transfer plea for Nottingham Forest 'target' as January transfer window looms

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer is desperate for striker Lyle Taylor to stay at the club amid reported interest from Nottingham Forest.

The Reds are one of a number of clubs credited with an interest in the 29-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

Premier League trio Burnley, Sheffield United and Norwich City have been linked with the striker, along with Championship duo Brentford and Bristol City.

It has previously been reported that Charlton are keen to offer Taylor a new deal at The Valley, in order to ward off interest from other clubs.

It is believed that Taylor’s contract with the Addicks expires at the end of the season.

Bowyer says he is not surprised that clubs have shown an interest in signing Taylor as we approach January, but says he hopeful that the player can agree to a new deal in the near future.

“I’d only be surprised if there wasn’t interest in Lyle,” Bowyer told London News Online. “You knew that was going to happen.

“We were hoping to have him signed up coming up to January but that hasn’t been the case yet.

“Hopefully that will change between now and January. If it doesn’t then hopefully we’ll keep him until the summer – because we need him.”
